Like Gods
by krstaten
Just this once, tonight
we leave the windows open,
let the city in.
Hold me like you did
before we had even learned
to build from the scraps.
Tonight, with the sky
as our witness, we gladly
tear all of this down,
then take the refuse
and build again. A new home
held shut with staples,
run off batteries
from the back of the drawer,
like the beginning.
When we start over
with spare paper and old notes,
we are like gods.
Just for tonight, love,
we scream back at the monsters
outside our window.
We’ve kept stones and broken things
to build our own world with them.
Enjoyed the poem Katie!

Love in particular your last two lines:
“We’ve kept stones and broken things
to build our own world with them.”
Something to seriously meditate on!
Thank you!

Wow, you took this prompt and wove it into something amazing. I am rethinking my poem now because it sounds so amateurish. I am really impressed with the quality of this poem. As a music fanatic, I have to ask–what song were you referencing?

Wow, thank you so much! I was listening to The Amazing Devil’s song Wild Blue Yonder when I wrote this. The entirety of both of their albums is 100% worth a listen!
